Cadet Records Manager

Before You Install

We know that you are excited about using Cadet Records Manager and that you are anxious to get it up and running.

BUT….. Please review the following items FIRST to avoid a support call:

Make backups of all important data on your system prior to installation. As with any Windows-based program, unforeseen problems can occur during an installation. BE SMART, AND BACK UP OTHER IMPORTANT DATA FILES FIRST! With Windows 95 or 98, we recommend that you make an emergency startup disk prior to installation as well. (Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Then click on the StartUp Disk tab. Insert a floppy, click on Create Disk, and follow the instructions.)

You must have MS Access (version 2000 or newer) on your system to use the full capabilities of Cadet Records Manager.  Without it, you will be able to enter all of your records, but you will not be able to print reports. MS Access 2000 may be installed before or after installing Cadet Records Manager©.

You must have MS PowerPoint (version 2000 or newer) on your system to use the Tutorial.

Close all other programs before starting the installation.   The majority of installation failures occur due to other programs running at the same time.  The biggest culprit is MS Office. (Refer to the Frequently Asked Questions for more details.) Page 1-3 of the User Guide provides installation steps and additional information.   Installation steps are also on the orange sheet that came with your shipment.

IMPORTANT!

Depending on your operating system and whether or not you already have Office 2000 installed on your system, the installation of Cadet Records Manager may start by installing some additional Windows components, including the new Windows Installer engine and the MDAC components.  This process must occur before the installation of Cadet Records Manager.  It is characterized by at one or two additional installation screens, with periods between the screens where there appears to be no activity (no screens showing and the cursor is not an hourglass). This can last for 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the speed of your system. During this period, however, there will be hard drive activity, as the Windows components are being uncompressed and configured.  You may also see a message indicating that the Control Panel is being updated.  You MUST wait for this lengthy process to complete.   BE PATIENT!  Even though it appears that nothing is happening, the actual installation is occurring.

You may have to restart your system when the first portion of this process completes. Leave the installation CD in the CD-ROM drive during the first restart, so that the installation will continue automatically.  After the installation of the Windows Installer and the MDAC components, the installation of CRM itself will continue.  You may have to restart at the completion of the CRM portion of the installation process. Take the installation CD out of the CD-ROM drive after the actual CRM installation, during the final restart.

View the Tutorial before starting to use Cadet Records Manager. This will help to ensure that you will be successful with it. There is extensive information in the tutorial to show you how to use the programs.  The Tutorial is installed with Cadet Records Manager.

Follow the instructions on Page 1-6 of your User Guide for setting up the initial information needed to use Cadet Records Manager©. First-time security log-in information is on Page 1-6. The User Guide is an Adobe PDF file.  If you do not have Adobe Acrobat reader, you can download this from www.adobe.com.
